Travel Guide Feature – Angela Current of Classic Resumes

Approximately three years ago I met Angela on a social networking site.  We’ve never spoken on the phone or met in person, but we have supported each other.  During times of transition and rediscovering my purpose and calling I have felt lonely, as I moved away from certain things.   Angela has always provided encouragement.  It has been such a gift.

Angela is the owner of  Classic Resumes, offering resume writing services, as well as career and interview coaching.  Striving to give you the needed edge and confidence to make your career dreams a reality.   In support of our sisters, Angela offers her resume and career coaching services to 2 women in transition, per month, free of charge.  Below Angela shares some insight into her Believe Act Go Traveling Sanctuary. Thank you Angela.

Born Beliefs

MBL: As a child what did you believe in? “As a child I believed that angels watched over me and that I could be a rock star; basically that anything was possible.”

MBL: Do you still believe this?  “To some degree, yes. I’ve survived cancer, but life tends to be a struggle. I know that I can and am meant to do great things.”

MBL: Do you remember a time being completely comfortable with yourself?  If yes, when and what were you doing? “When I went through cancer, I would have never believed it (due to the scars), but I’m very comfortable with myself now. Likely, more so than ever before. I see the goal, aim high and try to never let the scars hold me back.”

Buried, Bought, Borrowed Beliefs

MBL: What beliefs did you adopt as you grew that didn’t align with your core born beliefs?  “My parents were wonderful, but they seemed to frown upon associating with those above our “class” too much. They had friends from all economic levels, but we tended to be taught not to be or act like we were “above” others (which I agree with), but sometimes it felt like we shouldn’t strive for “more.” Drive and greed were often looked at similarly.”

MBL: What events in your life caused you to  bury your core beliefs? “Growing up thinking that we were poor by the standards of others and being taught to keep struggles to ourselves. Once we moved back to the Midwest from Los Angeles and seeing the clear division of classes that exists in a small town, it made it difficult to believe that I could be anything more than in the “middle” somewhere and unimportant.”

MBL: Who has supporting your dreams and beliefs in your life and how?  “I had a wonderful Senior English teacher that told me that I needed to pursue writing because it was clearly my gift, but it was my best friend (that just recently passed away) that pushed me to write. Telling me that I could turn words into art and something as simple as a resume into a document that stood out among the masses. She never let it go, right up until her death and now I feel that if I do anything less than succeeding in this business, I’ve failed her.”

MBL: When have you tried to be something you are not?  When, why how?   “In high school and in my young adult life I wanted to be liked so much that I always molded myself to what others wanted. From what I thought it would take to make friends, to what I thought a man would want as a wife and even tried to be the perfect mom. It took cancer to get me to become “me” for the first time and I really like me.”

MBL:  Finish this sentence as many times as you like.  I believe…….

I believe a person is more than their circumstances.

I believe that a woman can do anything she sets her mind to.

I believe we have a responsibility to help others.

I believe ANYTHING is possible!

Action

MBL: Finish this sentence as many times as you like.

I spread joy….

Making people smile.

Helping people find jobs.

Dancing.

I shred fear….

By giving hope to others.

By believing in tomorrow.

I have fun……

Connecting with old and new friends online.

Running

Getting lost in the music.

Writing about characters doing amazing things and living incredible adventures.

Go

MBL: What moments in your life would you define as OH Yes moments. That inside yes that says this is right and this is the direction to go?  “The only real OH YES moment that jumped at me was when I was diagnosed with cancer and not knowing that I even had tomorrow to make my dreams come true. That was the moment that I became determined to achieve all of my dreams and stop living my life to please EVERYONE, but me. Realized that I had something special to share.”

What’s in your actual bag (tote handbag) – Tools/Fuel

MBL:  What tangible things do you have in your bag that help you spread joy, shred fear and have fun?  “My iPod is ALWAYS  with me and I carry a little photo album that has friends, family, quotes and reminders of what I want to be when I grow up. ;o)”

MLB:  How do you share your intangible fuel (inspiration, love etc.)  “I try to give other survivors hope for tomorrow. I was terrible at going through cancer (comedy of errors from start to finish) and that if I CAN survive it, others can, as well. I live my life to help others find hope and find work (those two areas are what bring me joy).”

B*a*g Gauge

MBL:  What physical or mental cues do you receive when you are low on fuel?   “I tend to feel like I need to hide away, like I have nothing left to give (literally empty).”

MBL: What do you do to ensure you maintain a full tank of fuel?  “I try to stay inspired, but tend to go like gangbusters until I run out of steam. Then it takes a bit to get back to where I need to be. I find quiet helps.”

Travel

MBL: What inspires you to travel outside of your comfort zone and share yourself with others and discover your B*a*g? ” Knowing that even if it causes me stress or even pain, if I help someone get through a tough time, it’s worth it.”

MBL:  Physically where have you gone and what have you discovered?  “I really haven’t traveled since I was a kid, but I dream of travels to come.”

MBL:  How has your travels rewarded you? “The hope of future travel pushes me to work harder for rewards to come.”

Sanctuary

MBL:  What is your physical sanctuary that you plug into to refuel? ” Solitude.”

MBL: How are you a traveling sanctuary during your days, which is the safe place for others to refuel and be comfortable being themselves? ” I’m the type of person that allows people to be themselves because they see that I don’t pretend to be anything other than what I am. That creates comfort.”

MBL: Who has been your Traveling Sanctuaries? “I tend to be a loner, but my best friend used to be the one person I could always be myself with. She was the only person that I never held back with.”

Baggage into B*a*g

MBL:  What baggage have you recycled into B*a*g?  “I reach across socioeconomic lines and don’t play games with “clicks” or social classes. I see everyone equally.”

MBL:  What baggage do you carry today that weighs down your travels?  “I tend to carry the weight of the world without sharing the burden. I don’t like to impose on anyone.”
